It's the time of the year again to grab a Christmas tree, put up some lights and find the ornaments carefully stashed somewhere in the house.
Merry Christmas and the best wishes for the new year!
From Simuleon we wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for 2021!
And at least I am hoping for some snow ;)
Here in the Netherlands we have the expression that something can 'snow under'. Figuratively, this indicates that it's forgotten, because something else is taking up all the attention. Typically, this isn't a good thing, but in light of the current pandemic, it may not be a bad thing if we can forget 2020, hence this simulation with 2020 numbers ;-).

This year we have used SIMULIA XFlow CFD to determine whether Santa could fly without his beloved reindeers. (just don't ask me to mention all their names)
In order to determine whether Santa could fly like superman, we have created a virtual windtunnel study and used some assumptions. We have tried many iterations, but the best angle of attack seemed to be 20 degrees in order to create the most amount of lift.

Merry Christmas - Create your own Christmas tree in Abaqus
What if … you could let Abaqus draw a Christmas tree for you, according to your own specifications, and would then show it deforming under the load of the balls?
If wouldn’t change the world, but it would be kind of fun, wouldn’t it? At least that’s what I thought, which led to the Christmas tree plugin, that you can download from this page.

The image represents a Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) analysis on a spiral christmas tree, where the wind of 10km/h is coming from the right, goes through the spiral tree and creates a turbulent vortex area on the left side of the tree. To finish this story, for the christmas star on top of the three, we performed a structural analysis based on the windload.
Merry Christmas and a happy 2016 from the Simuleon Team !
